Abstract One way to achieve increased wind capacity is by installing larger and more efficient turbines, which results in larger/heavier generators. Direct-drive, permanent magnet generators are favoured due their efficiency, but the added weight an issue, as this drives up cost of nacelle turbine support structure, along with increasing manufacturing installation costs. Therefore, minimizing mass, particularly structural these low speed becoming much important. A vast amount research has been done on trying reduce electromagnetically ‘active’ materials, it supporting structure or ‘inactive’ that makes biggest percentage generator’s mass. paper studies statics dynamics a large offshore direct-drive opportunities for light-weighting, well improvements rotor through optimisation. The indicator optimised design system under each predefined scenario. These scenarios will cover different considerations structure.
